Heres another pointless reallife fact but the Nfl injury prevention was at its best this week. I loved watching the lions stash Thier injuried head coach Matt Patricia behind the Gatorade jugs just in case a player came flying at him. It was quite odd to watch him call a game from a stand behind the hydration station, but you do what you got to do to prevent injuries . Protect your assets !

If I personally have any issue with injuries its during preseason. NFL teams have gone as far as NEVER playing significant starters during the preseason.

In years past:

Preseason game 1 starters wouldnt play and if they did it was for a series.

Preseason game 2 the starters would play a series or two

Preseason game 3 use to be the trail run with starters playing as much as the 1st half in preparation for the regular season.

Preseason game 4 was again no starters as the bubble players fought for their playing career lives.

In recent years, teams like the Rams and the Eagles have gone the route of never playing starters during the preseason and with both teams reaching the Superbowl the past two seasons, more and more teams will follow suit.

The difference between the NFL and MFN is extreme due to roster size. While the NFL has 90 players, we have a max of 60 which means everyone must play some to spread the risk out for everyone.

The other differnce is while the NFL training camp last weeks into the preseason with scrimmages against other teams becoming more common, MFN training camp is one day so any play knowledge or conditioning only occurs in preseason games. In an NFL preseason game, vanilla offense and defense is used to not tip your hand and gameplan install is done exclusively in training camp with the MFN being the complete opposite. Playing time in the NFL preseason helps very little for play knowledge while its essential in MFN.

I want to make this very clear, I love this game and realize it's a continual work in progress. I also realize that despite the beta league, every owner in MFN is a play tester and the feedback from owners that have played hundreds of seasons is a valuable resource for the longterm success and longevity of this game.

These threads are created so that owners can voice their concerns and vent their frustration. Not everyone will have the same opinion but that's a healthy form of debate as long as everyone respects one another. Telling someone if they dont like it to quit serves no purpose and I'm not excusing myself from that either. I would hope the goal for everyone was to grow the game and make it better.

It's also important that JDB knows that these forums are not meant as attacks on the game but issues that longtime users feel hinder the growth and enjoyment of the game. As a developer, I hope you see these forums as a valuable resource where everyday users can add their 2 cents because everyone isnt meant for or desires to be a part of the beta league.

this is kinda how I do it here

I don't see anything wrong doing that here except . ..conditioning . If conditioning were to go down here from overuse of a player , and the effect was less, would be a neat addition to simulate season long fatigue . MFN conditioning fits a high school model. As I came in to double sessions with out any off season training ....every year, and it was rough getting back into shape. And irl highschoolers get injuries almost as much during practice as they do in games.

The difference between the NFL and MFN is extreme due to roster size. While the NFL has 90 players, we have a max of 60 which means everyone must play some to spread the risk out for everyone.

this would help. I have suggested practice squads and larger preseason rosters years ago. I haven't given up on the idea, but I think if it weren't implemented properly users would game that part of the system as well. That's the only reason I think it is not here already

I just don't think play knowledge is that important , especially with our lack of plays and vets come out of allocations underdeveloped in both of those categories . That could be changed easier, but I love a more in depth camp that came with scrimmages at least vs. your own team. Like shells or whatever but you get to watch it

no one ever discredited that. After general releases I watch top owners games to see what they can do. Posting about things is where I pick and choose as I have 100s of test and 1000s of posts in all forums touching on alot things I think needs works.

yes, but I believe in freedom of speech and no one is better than anyone else. Words are powerful and should be posted in a responsible manner

I read every post that pertains to gameplay. Whether it be in chat or the bug box. Mfn1 always seemed like a healthy place to voice lax in code as most of it is functional there as well, but maybe there is less competition due to lack of egos. Or users know /think that those forums are more tightly regulated, but anyone should be able to post anything anywhere. It s all vaulable.

Man under was over developed in 4.5 causing an array "problems " but I still don't see any of these releases as better or worse. Specific parts are but things are good if you follow beta. I can barely stand the old version once the new on is released .

another quip pertaining to injuries and code. Is punts/special teams. We've got a consistent amount of punts happening in 4.4. And 4.5. Destroying nfl records and probably adding to the function of fatigue ratings and squewing numbers.

No one s doubting anything but of all the examples in this thread, the worst offenders that pushed the limits of the code seem to have the worst results . That's a functional code that needs a tweak....yes.... But why does the injury rate have to be turned down. I really think other things should be looked at first a s the game is an organism that needs symbiotic changes to keep it real enough . This is were the discussion should be, but I guess I am a die hard tester

My biased posts are just showing the other end of the spectrum . Nothing is black and white as this thread makes it and I am just painting another picture , but it doesn't mean I don't see the whole picture . I really don't want to see how high I could get injuries . ...I did a test way back under 4.2 or 4.3 cause I thought it was so easy and boring .

It was an allocation and all I did was set my weights and install one gameplan...maybe 20 mins total all season. No subs , no depth chart...nothing really ....I also chose to play with no kickers or punters. We made the play offs at 9-7. Another one way back, I picked up a team, set them up and I never logged on. We won a championship vs, top owners . But winning is not my concern it's a good game for all.

I touched on fatigue through multiple releases as it does seem to change. My latest numbers were calculated because of this thread. A year ago pre 4.4 releases I touched on it again in beta, but that did little. If anything would change it would be because of threads like this..not me or anyone in beta.

But just like you shouldn't play zone under alot in 4.5 if you want to lose .....I wouldnt play anyone alot if you don't want alot of injuries , but that depends on your stlye and how much recovery time your giving your players based on Thier in play demands

I absolutely love this game, best sim of its kind. I do think the injuries could be lowered a tad.

I think the best compromise might be to just allow us to have a practice squad of 7 players, or just carry 60 players during the regular but leave it to where only 46 can be activated on game day. I think either idea is a good fix. Whether it be 60 player roster, or 53 player roster, 7 player practice squad. 60 player roster is probably much simpler to apply.

That - or as CJ said previously; Make it possible to resign a player a couple of weeks after we cut them. Is it really better being unemployed for a full season, than getting resigned 3 times and getting paid for the games you play?

If this was a factory management game, I'm sure the workers, however mad they were that they were laid off previously, would rather take the job again than go unemployed.

If injuries can't or won't be turned down, I like the practice squad idea.

If the practice squad won't work, then turning down the "opinion of you" meter so we can re-sign our roster bubble guys would be great.

My main reason of complaining in the first place was the struggle to find 46 healthy players, so I'm for anything to help that.

Excellent suggestion...I think the simple solution would be to simply increase the roster to 56....this cuts out the need for a practice squad and would allow most teams to hold onto and develop more rookies that are on the bubble. In the preseason, maybe up the roster limit to 65-70.

This works too. The realism ship sailed long ago, so that argument is moot.

Let's take one of my leagues as an example.

The Champions League is in season 2 following an allocation draft and I honestly was shocked by the number but.....

1497

One thousand four hundred and ninety seven free agents are currently looking for a job. We are in week 11 of the season and everyone has a full 53 except 3 teams. 2 with 52 and 1 with just 46. This is outset by at least 3 teams with over 53 with players on IR.

If we increase the roster size to 56....that's just 96 players....even 55 would make a difference and that's 64 players with jobs.

I repeat the number because it's amazing

1497 free agents

I honestly cant believe it and that's EXCLUDING punters and kickers.

Can somebody confirm that number because it sounds crazy
