Holding Penalties that don't impact the plays

These really need addressing. I've seen worse than this, this is just an illustration.

When a player is clearly 'gone for 6' and someone 30 - 40 yards away is getting called on a hold....c'mon?

Ridiculous.

I'm no expert on the rules nor am I looking for a fight. Just adding my two cents. This same thing does happen from time to time in real life. For example, earlier this season, 10/9/17, when the Bears were playing the Vikings, a 42-yard touchdown run by Jordan Howard was brought back by a holding call. They ended up punting it away, getting no points.

"Early in the second quarter, the offense committed three penalties in a span of four snaps. The most costly was a holding call against receiver Markus Wheaton that wiped out a 42-yard Jordan Howard touchdown run. Subsequent penalties on McBride (offensive pass interference) and Charles Leno Jr. (false start) backed up the Bears again and forced them into their fourth consecutive punt to open the game."

I tried to find video of the play but was unsuccessful. So I’m not sure if the foul was closer to the play than in the examples here. Granted, this penalty was committed by a wide receiver, so likely farther down the field than a lineman.

With the number of leagues on here it's perhaps surprising that this kind of thing doesn't happen more often. But I think we'd need to see some numbers on how often it is occurring before deciding to dive into the code to make adjustments.

When it happens to me, I chalk it up to a “BS” call by the refs. Those happen all the time in real life. Just ask the fans of the losing team. :)

Looks like the hold was a little closer to the play than I was thinking. Ah, well.

Yeah so take that. Signed a Vikings fan.

Seriously though, I was thinking the same you wrote originally, it does happen in real games.

The second one was so brutal I had to laugh.
